Skilled workers are people who can become permanent residents on the basis of their ability to establish economically in Canada. An applicant is assessed on six selection factors and is allotted points on the selection criteria.
Please note that with the amendment of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations followed by new instructions issued by the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada in November 2008, only those applications can be processed which falls under following criteria:

1. Applicants who have an Arranged Employment Offer (AEO),
OR
2. Applicants who are skilled workers and have at least one (1) year of experience in any of following occupations:

If an applicant meets the above mentioned criteria then he/she will be assesed on the basis of the following selection grid.

- If your score is the same or higher than the pass mark, then you may qualify to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker.
- If your score is lower than the pass mark, you are not likely to qualify to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker. We recommend that you do not apply at this time.
- However, you can still apply if you believe other factors would show that you are able to establish yourself in Canada and support your dependents. Send a detailed letter with your application explaining why you think you are able to become economically established in Canada. Include any documents that support your claim.
Note: If you are married or have a common-law partner and if he/she is able to secure more points based on the selection grid, then we suggest you to make him/her a principle applicant on the application.
