Skilled Worker Immigration to Canada

Skilled workers are people who can become permanent residents because they are able to become economically established in Canada. You will be assessed on six selection factors and be allotted the points on such basis.

Please note that with the amendment of Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations followed by new instructions issued by the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada in November 2008, only those applications can be processed which falls under following criteria:

1. Applicants who have an arranged employment offer,

2. Applicants who are skilled workers and has atleast one year experience in any of following occupations:

Restaurant and Food Service Managers
Primary Production Managers (Except Agriculture)
Professional Occupations in Business Services to Management
Insurance Adjusters and Claims Examiners
Biologists and Related Scientists
Architects
Specialist Physicians
General Practitioners and Family Physicians
Dentists
Pharmacists
Physiotherapists
Registered Nurses
Medical Radiation Technologists
Dental Hygienists & Dental Therapists
Licensed Practical Nurses
Psychologists
Social Workers
Chefs & Cooks
Contractors and Supervisors, Carpentry Trades
Contractors and Supervisors, Mechanic Trades
Electricians (Except Industrial & Power System)
Industrial Electricians & Plumbers
Welders & Related Machine Operators
Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics
Crane Operators
Drillers & Blasters — Surface Mining, Quarrying & Construction
Supervisors, Oil and Gas Drilling and Service

If applicant meets the above mentioned criteria then he/she will be assesed on basis of following selection grid.

Selection factors and Maximum points for each factor.

Education	Maximum 25 points
Ability in English and/or French	Maximum 24 points
Experience	Maximum 21 points
Age	Maximum 10 points
Arranged employment in Canada	Maximum 10 points
Adaptability	Maximum 10 points
Total	Maximum 100 points
Pass mark	67 points

If your score is the same or higher than the pass mark, then you may qualify to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker.
If your score is lower than the pass mark, you are not likely to qualify to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker. We recommend that you do not apply at this time.
However, you can still apply if you believe other factors would show that you are able to establish yourself in Canada and support your dependants. Send a detailed letter with your application explaining why you think you are able to become economically established in Canada. Include any documents that support your claim.

Note- if you are married or have a common law partner and if he/she is able to secure more points based on the selection grid, then we sugest you to make him/her a principle applicant

	More than 2 years but less than 3 years
	More than 3 years but less than 4 years
	4 or more years

To obtain points for this factor, you must have a permanent job offer in Canada and be capable of and likely to accept and carry out the job.

You can receive a maximum of 10 points based on any combination of the elements listed below:

**1. Accompanying Spouse/Common-Law Partner's Education**
Secondary school diploma or less
A one-year diploma, trade certificate or apprenticeship and completed at least 12 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies
A one-year diploma, trade certificate or apprenticeship or university degree at the bachelor's level and completed at least 13 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies
A two-year diploma, trade certificate or apprenticeship or university degree at the bachelor's level and completed at least 14 years of full-tine or full-time equivalent studies
A three-year diploma, trade certificate or apprenticeship (not university) and completed at least 15 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies
Two or more university degrees at the bachelor's level and completed at least 15 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies
A master's or Ph.D. and completed at least 17 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies
Not Applicable

**2. Principal Applicant or Spouse / Common-Law Partner has studied in Canada**
No, or has less than two years post-secondary education in Canada
Completed at least two years of post-secondary education in Canada since the age of 17

**3. Principal Applicant or Spouse / Common-Law Partner has worked in Canada**
No, or has worked full-time in Canada for less than one year
Worked full-time in Canada for at least one year

**4. Principal Applicant has obtained points under Factor 5, Arranged Employment**
